A 24-hour bandh called by a little known outfit, demanding cancellation of elections to the Darjeeling Lok Sabha seat, disrupted normal life in Siliguri.

Markets, business establishments, banks and educational institutions were closed and most private vehicles were off the roads.

The leaders of Bangla-O-Bangla Bhasa Bachao Samiti asked the EC to delete the names of voters who came to the region from Nepal after 1950.
The outfit chief Mukunda Majumder alleged that the polls were conducted with many vehicles carrying Gorkhaland numberplates.
CPI-M and CPI-ML (Liberation) opposed the bandh. However, there was no untoward incident, Inspector General of Police (North Bengal), K L Tamta said.
