Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi have been taken into preventive custody in Patna for protesting against Centre's failure to contain price rise. Lalu is leading the protest against the failure of the Centre to maintain market stability, targeting Union Minister Sharad Pawar for his inability to curb inflation.
RJD supporters blocked National Highways and railway tracks, even as shops remained closed in response to a 12-hr bandh in Bihar called by the party to protest the Centre and state government's alleged failure in controlling escalating prices of essential commodities.
The bandh, which began amidst tight security, is being supported by the Left parties and the LJP.
Reports said most of the shops were closed in Jehanabad, Bhagalpur, Gaya, Gopalganj, Sitamarhi, Muzaffarpur, Begusarai, Samastipur, Chapra, Darbhanga and Saharsa towns.
The bandh supporters blocked National Highways in Gopalganj, Chapra, Sitamarhi and Begusarai, disrupting movement of buses and trucks at several places and vehicular traffic was thin.
The supporters also blocked railway tracks at several places in Jehanabad and Chapra, parliamentary constituency of RJD leader Lalu Prasad, Begusarai and Samastipur to enforce the bandh.
Railways, medical, water and electricity supply and other essential services have been exempted from the purview of the call.
