Bardhan told a meeting here that he was hopeful of Nara Singh's victory as various sections of the people had expressed their support for Singh, who is the state's Art and Culture minister.

Without naming a particular individual, Bardhan said Nara Singh would be able to highlight the state's problems at the national level more than those who were elected from the Inner Manipur seat in the previous Lok Sabha polls.

He said the CPI had always fought for protection of territorial integrity of Manipur and would continue to do so whenever there was a threat to the territorial integrity of the state.

Noted writer M K Binodini who was also present at the meeting said women and youth should carefully choose the right person who can highlight the problems in a better way in Parliament.

Lamenting the series of alleged atrocities on civilians by central forces in the recent past, Binodini, who bagged several national and international awards, expressed hope that Nara Singh would do well in Parliament, if he was elected.
