BBC to air show for women

THE BBC World Service Trust, in its latest initiative, is going to launch a radio show ?Aangan ke Paar? primarily targeting the women audience. The show would focus on the issues related to women?s empowerment, with emphasis on women?s health. Spreading awareness about HIV and AIDS would be an integral part of the show.

The show would focus on the issues related to women’s empowerment, with emphasis on women’s health. Spreading awareness about HIV and AIDS would be an integral part of the show.

‘Aangan ke Paar’ would go on air in October and would be broadcast on every Friday on more than 20 all India Radio stations in three states-Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh. The first show would be aired on October 6 at various stations.

Addressing a press conference, Andrew Whiteland, Director BBC World Service Trust said, “Amongst the population, one group that is least informed about health issues, especially HIV and AIDS, is women and that too from the rural areas. We, through this programme, want to reach to them and educate them.

We’ve got inputs from the people who work on the field with women/patients suffering from HIV or AIDS and this makes the show more real.”

Apart from this, twelve women activists were picked from these states and were given a thorough training at the Trust’s office in Delhi. These women were trained in the basics of journalism and radio programming skills.
