Institutional teams in the Ranji Trophy will soon get a helping hand from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to overcome the lack of proper facilities. Cricket's apex body in India has decided to give them a grant of Rs 10 crore each for infrastructure development.

Ratnakar Shetty, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of the BCCI told HT, “The BCCI has sanctioned an amount of Rs 10 crore each for infrastructure development to Services and Railways.”

If that comes through, two grounds that regularly host Ranji Trophy matches in the capital, the Karnail Singh Stadium and Palam grounds, criticised often for their sub-standard pitch and facilities may soon get a facelift.

It should be noted that unlike state associations, neither Services nor Railways used to get any money from BCCI, apart from the amount that’s given for hosting Ranji matches. The main reason for this is that both Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) and Railways Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) are multi-discipline sports bodies and are not only cricket associations.

“We reminded them about a couple of months back and are waiting for their reply. By the look of it, we should be getting the money from next year.”
