In the space of a few days, the focus has shifted from Chennai Super Kings again to Rajasthan Royals after co-owner Raj Kundra, according to Delhi Police, admitted to placing bets on matches in the Twenty20 league.
While consensus has emerged on not banning either franchise, there are indications the Board will consider imposing heavy fines at the emergent Working Committee meeting here on Monday.
“Some penalties will have to be imposed on the franchises, especially Rajasthan Royals. There is talk it will be financial in nature and the probe panel will be handed the case,” said an official.
The Kundra issue could also be handed to the two-member inquiry commission tasked with probing CSK and Royals. That would also allow the board to buy some time as there is a debate whether there is enough proof against Kundra.

While the CSK case involves its team principal, Gurunath Meiyappan, the Royals issue is more serious as it involves players as well as a co-owner. “The discussion in the meeting will most likely revolve around Royals,” he added.
According to clause 11.3 (c) of the franchise agreement, a team can be terminated if its owner brings the league into disrepute. “While CSK haven't had major problems before Meiyappan's alleged involvement, Royals will feel more pressure. They have had issues in the past. This time, apart from the players, one of their owners is also involved.”

HT had reported on Saturday that the teams are unlikely to be suspended. Both have qualified for the Champions League later this year and the worry is that if they are not there, it will send a wrong signal to the cricketing world and the tournament will also suffer a financial loss.
Rajasthan Royals have already distanced themselves from Kundra and indications are that they will not hesitate to sacrifice him to save the team.
Among other decisions, fresh rules for the league are likely to be announced and restrictions imposed on the movement of owners around the players' dugout.
The BCCI will also have to decide on finding a treasurer as the key position is lying vacant since Ajay Shirke resigned on May 31.
