Isabelle Dessoy, 47, had been in India for the past three years and was on contract with the Belgian foreign ministry. Embassy officials said she was not a diplomat. Choudhary, 36, said he stabbed Dessoy after she dismissed him from service on Saturday.

Dessoy, who had separated from her husband, was living with her son Donatin, 14. "Choudhary was very close to Dessoy. He would always accompany her," said Ravindra Yadav, DCP (southwest). Choudhary was her personal driver and not an employee of the embassy.

Police said Choudhary and Dessoy went to a five-star hotel for a swim and lunch on Saturday. Later, around 7.30 p.m., they went to Greater Kailash for dinner. On the way, Dessoy objected to Choudhary's rash driving and took an autorickshaw home.

But help arrived late. Dessoy was declared brought dead at Safdarjung hospital. There were 22 wounds on her body.
