Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged students to take the examinations with a smile on their face, being ‘warriors and not worriers,’ and advised parents against comparing their children with others that mounts pressure on them.

Addressing a special episode of his regular radio address to the nation "Mann Ki Baat", Modi told the students appearing for various board examinations next month to focus on present rather than thinking too much about future, drawing an analogy from cricket that good batsman on the crease is bothered only about the next ball.

“Take the examination with a smile on your face. I am sure you will do well. Don’t think of competing with someone else, think about surpassing your own limits with each passing day”, Modi said.

Prime Minister told the students to have faith in their hardwork and recalled that he had been an ordinary student and never scored exceptionally well in the examination.

“My hand-writing was also bad and maybe my teachers passed me in my examinations as they might not have understood what was written,” he said, in a bid to lighten the exam-pressure on the students.

“We must not waste our energy in competing with others. Start competing with yourself and make sure that your present is better than your past,” Modi said.

“We are responsible for making exams a burden. We should stop doing it," he added.

"Many parents have a feeling that their child should be the best at studies. They want their child to make them proud in their circle of friends and family. In reality, it is the parent who wants to bask in the glory of their child," he said.
