Polling remained largely peaceful in Ghaziabad district where rural centres registered a higher turnout than urban areas.
The five constituencies of Sahibabad, Loni, Modi Nagar, Murad Nagar and Ghaziabad recorded a total polling of around 58.78% on Tuesday. Nearby Panchsheel Nagar district (previously Hapur), comprising mostly of rural population, recorded around 61.7% turnout. The sixth phase of UP Assembly elections came to an end on Tuesday evening.
Ghaziabad and Sahibabad, which comprise mostly urban population, recorded around 56% and 56.6% polling. In comparison, the three typical rural assembly constituencies of Loni, Murad Nagar and Modi Nagar recorded 58.3%, 62% and 58% polling respectively.
The pattern of demands of voters changed comparatively as one moved from developed areas such as Indirapuram towards the city and further to the rural belt.
In Sahibabad constituency comprising areas such as Vasundhara, Vaishali, Indirapuram, Kaushambi and Delta colonies, the residents voted for development. “Our areas have always demanded better sewage infrastructure, solid waste disposal and even better local transport facilities,” said Kuldeep Saxena from Indirapuram RWA Confederation.
Majority of residents of Lajpat Nagar, Rajendra Nagar, Shalimar Garden and city areas went to polls for better civic amenities.

{{/usCountry}}“Our areas still need basic facilities such as clean water, better electricity provision, disposal of daily garbage and removal of encroachments,” said BS Chauhan, a Lajpat Nagar resident.
The typical rural belt of Modi Nagar, Murad Nagar and Loni saw a majority of residents voting according to their loyalties to political parties and even caste equations.
