The award by Guru Naval Gaadi, an organisation based in the Rajasthan town of Jodhpur, was given away by Qamar Mansoor, Sindh minister for sports, culture, sports and youth affairs, The News International said in a report from Karachi.

Known for his versatility, Bhagat renders bhajans with equal grace and finesse. His easy charm and mellifluous voice holds his audience spellbound in admiration. The maestro has so far composed more than 800 tunes. Besides, 16 albums of his renditions have also been released, it said.

Mansoor said the artist was an institution unto himself and the 40 years spent in the field were a testimony of his devotion to bhajan singing.

He said Bhagat was undoubtedly one of Pakistan's legends and the whole nation, especially the Hindu community, should take pride in him.
