Shares in India's leading mobile operator, Bharti Airtel, extended losses to more than 4 per cent by afternoon on Tuesday, as investors gave a thumbs down to its talks to buy Kuwaiti firm Zain's African assets.

At 2:01 pm (0831 GMT), Bharti was down 4.2 per cent at 273.50 rupees, while the main index BSES climbed 0.7 per cent.
