The Council and Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has announced the award. The award would be given to the scientist next year in January. Dr Sanjay Mittal has given this award for his researches in fluid mechanics and for developing new technologies to measure the forces influencing the aeroplanes, parachutes and wind tunnel.

Talking to Hindustan Times, Dr Mittal said that he along with his team members developed a technique for solving the most intricate problems and assessing the pressure and velocity of the air as fast as it can be through ‘parallel computering’ and ‘finite element analysis’.

He added that both these techniques have proved to be very successful in measuring and studying the air and environmental pressure on the flying aircraft over the high -tension power lines, rivers and oceans.

Dr Mittal is also an alumnus of IIT-K and had completed his B. Tech course from the institute during 1984 to 88. He pursued his Ph.D from USA in aerospace engineering. He has been serving the institute since 1994.

Dr Mittal was awarded Young Scientist Award by the Indian National Science Academy in 1999. In the year 2003, he was given Swarn Jayanti Award.
