V Kurien, the pioneer of the country's 'white revolution' who resigned as chairman of the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), will be succeeded by Parthi Bhatol, director of the Banaskantha Milk Producers Union.

Bhatol was elected unopposed to the post on Wednesday at a GCMMF board meeting at its headquarters in Anand, about 70 km from Ahmedabad.
Kurien, who launched a dairy cooperative movement that made milk easily available to wider masses, was forced to quit last month after a rebellion against him in the board of directors, the body comprising directors of 12 milk co-operatives of Gujarat.
Four directors, however, stayed away from Wednesday's electoral process alleging interference by the state government.
The GCMMF has a turnover of more than Rs.36 billion in milk produce business, and owns the "Amul" brand.
