THE CORPORATE management of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, celebrating its golden jubilee, has floated tender for gold coins it had announced to distribute among its more than 42,000 employees posted at different units in the country.
The total weight of the coins would be 425 kg and the cost would be more than Rs 45 crore.
Apart from this, the company has already spent a sum of about Rs 15 crore for distributing a pair of wristwatches among the employees.The 42,500 BHEL workers would each get a 10-gram 24-carat gold coin worth about Rs 11,000 along with a pair of wristwatches. The process of disbursing wristwatches, costing Rs 3,500 a pair, has already started in various units including Bhopal.
“We have already invited tenders for supply and distribution of 42,500 gold coins of 24-carat,” said a senior officer at the corporate office.
All bids pertaining to supply and distribution would be opened on December 12, he added. Talking to Hindustan Times he said that the employees have to wait a little as the entire process is likely to take a month or so. Name of the party that would be selected in the bidding process would be finalised in first half of December. The coins would carry some message or BHEL’s emblem embossed on them.

{{/usCountry}}The gifts will be given to all regular employees on the rolls of the company as on August 29, 2006, and to all engineers, executives and supervisory trainees on the rolls of BHEL on the aforesaid date.
Similarly, all temporary employees recruited against regular sanctioned posts of the company and working in the company as on August 29, 2006, along with all members of the Board of Directors of BHEL would get these gifts. Meanwhile, officials of Bhopal unit confirmed that the process of distributing watches started today at the mother plant.
