BHU student commits suicide

An undergraduate student of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has committed suicide in Varanasi.

An undergraduate student of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has committed suicide in Varanasi.

Alok Ranjan, a student of BA I, consumed poison in his room at the Annie Besant Hostel in the Kamachha area on Wednesday night. Some other hostellers rushed him to the Sir Sunderlal Hospital in the BHU. He was put on life support system in the Intensive Care Unit but died on Thursday morning. He was a resident of Harinagar Pagha at West Champaran in Bihar. The cause of suicide has not been established yet.

Chief Proctor of BHU Prof SK Singh said investigation was on to ascertain the cause of suicide. He said the body would be handed over to the guardians after a post-mortem examination. The guardians of the victim were informed on Wednesday night, but had not reached the city when reports were last received.
