BHU to upgrade academic activities, infrastructure

IN ITS endeavour to upgrade infrastructure and academic activities, the authorities of the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) have forwarded various proposals of more than Rs 1,314 crore to different government agencies.

IN ITS endeavour to upgrade infrastructure and academic activities, the authorities of the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) have forwarded various proposals of more than Rs 1,314 crore to different government agencies.

Talking to media persons after completing one-year in the office as BHU Vice-Chancellor on Friday, Prof Panjab Singh said efforts were on to generate resources to upgrade infrastructure and academic activities in BHU as well as its South Campus in Mirzapur.

Singh said various proposals such as expansion of facilities in Sir Sunderlal Hospital (Rs 262.06 crore), 500-bed super specialty hospital (448.17 crore), upgrading the Institute of Technology (292 crore) and developing the South Campus (210 crore) have been submitted to various government agencies.

Prof. Singh said efforts were on to upgrade facilities at Sir Sunderlal Hospital of BHU. He said instead of existing four hour out patient department (OPD) facility (8 am to 12 noon), now the OPD would remain operational from 8 am to 3 pm soon. “The Central Clinical Investigation Laboratory of the SS Hospital is being made operational for 24 hours for the convenience of patients,” he said.

“Besides, the BHU inked Memorandum of Understanding with International Crop Research Institute to run a project on ‘production of helicoverpa nuclear polyhedrosis virus and with Alkem India Limited for the development of new drugs’, he said.
