Bhushan backs Anti-nuke stir, protest turns aggressive

Emboldened by Team Anna member Prashant Bhushan’s support, anti-Kudankulam protesters on Sunday turned strident and launched a fresh tirade against the Centre and Tamil Nadu government for allegedly letting loose “a reign of police terror” against villagers.

Emboldened by Team Anna member Prashant Bhushan’s support, anti-Kudankulam protesters on Sunday turned strident and launched a fresh tirade against the Centre and Tamil Nadu government for allegedly letting loose “a reign of police terror” against villagers.

The two leaders of the People’s Movement against Nuclear Energy (PMANE), SP Udayakumar and M Pushparayan, said the state government was misusing the police machinery to divide local communities on the basis of caste, creed and religion.

“The Tamil Nadu government has sent local police officers to divide locals by instigating caste and religious hatred. These policemen spend all their time spreading rumours and causing fear among the people,” the PMANE alleged.

‘Regulate media’

Addressing the centenary celebrations of Kerala Kaumudi, a Malayalam daily, Bhushan said in Thiruvanathapuram the country needed an independent media regulatory authority.
