The construction of the 161-metre-long one-way flyover at a cost of Ng 30.7 million ($700,000) has already begun.

It will be 10-metres high and will connect the Ring Road and the Thimphu-Babesa double lane link, Bhutan's Kuensel newspaper said on Wednesday.

Talking about the safety aspect of the upcoming flyover, project manager PP Sinha said: "It would be curved with 600 mm hollow pipes beneath so that the weight would be less.

"The bearings at the two ends would strongly support the flyover in the event of an earthquake."

A footpath of about 1.5 m with crash barriers made of stainless steel railings would also be placed for the security of pedestrians, Sinha said.
