Bid to kill witness in Rai case
Police arrest two in connection with the blast at the legislator's Ghazipur residence on Tuesday, reports Prabhu Razdan.
Police have arrested slain BJP MLA Krishnand Rai's nephew Manoj Rai and one Babu Dhan in connection with the blast at the legislator's Ghazipur residence on Tuesday. Manoj is a witness in the Krishnanand Rai murder case.
Briefing reporters in Ghazipur on Tuesday, IG, Varanasi, Kashmir Singh said Babu Dhan's detention soon after the blast had helped police crack the case.
He said Babu Dhan, a resident of Rohtas in Bihar, revealed that constable Nand Kumar Thakur had called him to Ghazipur to plant a bomb on a road. The constable was killed in Tuesday's blast.
The police said Thakur, deployed for security at the house of Alka Rai, was involved in dumping explosives inside the house.
Police sources said Thakur had told Babu Dhan that a legislator was to be eliminated. However, he did not reveal the name of the legislator.
The sources added that Manoj Rai was aware of the plot. "Manoj Rai and Babu Dhan have been subsequently arrested after this disclosure," SP Ghazipur Tarun Gaba told

, adding that police would step up efforts to arrest some more persons from Bihar, who according to Babu Dhan, were expected to arrive in Ghazipur within a few days to carry out an explosion.
