Big is beautiful, as far as the sunglasses go. Making the fashion statement this season are vintage style sunglasses in different hues and extraordinary sizes.
"They come in all shapes - round, square, rectangular or heart. The glass colours too are becoming lighter, the more transparent the colour, the more trendy is the sunglass," says Ajit Bhardwaj, a dealer of major international brands.
The vintage sunglasses of the 80s were just classy round, with black or brown glasses, he says.
"The big hit these days are Aviators, plastic frames are slightly more popular than metal... they reflect the beauty of the eyes," says Bhardwaj.
"There's a lot of white besides the usual black and tortoise rims. Cosmetic colours - face-flattering shades like rose, pink and clear are for women who want to make a fashion statement," he says.
"From being a mere protection against UV radiation, sunglasses have morphed into a fashion statement and to give them a more chic look, they are being embellished with every thing from lace and leather to rivets, swaroski and diamonds," says Harsh Chopra of Ray Ban India.
With most of the international brands now available in big metros, one can choose from classic Hepburn shades to Elvis Metal Retro styles or settle for Ray Ban, Gucci, Dior or Prada.
