The Bihar School Examination Board(BSEB) Intermediate (Class 12) results for 2014 were declared on Tuesday with the percentage of successful candidates dipping by around 26% for science subjects and 12% for commerce in comparison to last year.

Only 3.05 lakh students or 66 per cent of total 4.63 lakh students who wrote their Intermediate examinations in science subjects could pass this year. In 2013, 92% of 3.62 lakh students had succeeded.

In Intermediate commerce results, 63,416 boys and girls or 82.6% of total 76,734 students passed this year in comparison to 94.4% of 72,510 students in 2013.

"One reason for poor results this year could be that the examination papers had subjective questions instead of multiple-choice questions like last year. Another reason could be better control at the examination centres this year to curb copying and cheating," said Bihar Education Minister PK Shahi.

Among science students only 18.7% or 86,702 boys and girls secured first division marks. Ravish Kumar of DAV High School, Danapur Cantonment, Patna topped in the science exam with 425 out of 500 marks.

Shahi said the Intermediate results for arts subject would be declared on June 2 or 3.
