Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's advice to NDA legislators to exercise restraint so that the ruling alliance does not earn "a bad name", seems to have fallen on deaf ears with a BJP MLA being booked for criminal intimidation of a senior IAS officer.

Avnish Kumar Singh, BJP MLA from Dhaka in East Champaran district and RJD legislator from Kesaria, also in the same district, have been charged with criminal intimidation and wrongful restraint of state's transport commissioner Pancham Lal on July three, official sources said in Patna on Wednesday.

An FIR under Sections 144, 452, 353, 504 and 506 of IPC was registered with the Shastrinagar police station on Tuesday on the basis of the complaint lodged by the officer's security guard Shravan Kumar Gupta.

The two legislators were alleged to have entered the office of the Commissioner with nearly 25 people carrying firearms to demand revocation of suspension of a motor vehicle inspector of Patna Sunil Tiwari, a relative of the BJP MLA.

The FIR says the legislators and their henchmen hurled abuses at the officer, threatened him with dire consequences and assaulted a staff, when the commissioner refused to pay heed to their demand.
