The faction-ridden Congress in Bihar has plunged into crisis with the en masse resignation of many party functionaries in protest against the appointment of non-Congressmen in the newly constituted pradesh executive committee.
With barely four months for the assembly elections in Bihar, the move is further going to mar the chances of the party’s revival in the state after more than two decades.
The Bihar Congress is already plagued by bitter acrimony between state president Anil Sharma and state AICC in-charge Jagdish Tytler.
In a signed letter to Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, the functionaries have alleged that the names of the deceased were included in the 562-member team.
“Most members are non-Congressmen and unknown faces having doubtful background... This will have far reaching consequences on the coming assembly elections,” they claimed.
They also met Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi on Friday and explained the reasons behind the move.
But, Sharma denies these charges. “These are baseless allegations. We have tried to involve maximum number of genuine Congress workers in the committee,” he said and claimed the letter has “forged and fictitious” signatures.
The leaders alleged that the Bihar Congress has been “hijacked by rejected people” from other parties “under a well designed conspiracy at the behest of our political adversaries”.
