Gobind Singh got a kangaroo court trial at Pahunshi village on Sunday evening and was summarily executed by villagers — after being held guilty — at the instigation of the woman's father, said a police officer who did not want to be named.

Gobind's father Baldeo Singh, a marginal farmer, said, "I begged them to spare my son's life, but they laughed at me."

Police have registered an FIR on Baldeo's complaint against 18 persons.

Kishanganj superintendent of police RK Mishra, who is also in charge of Araria, said one person has been arrested and hunt was on for the other accused including the woman's father.

"We will ensure speedy trial of the accused and the guilty will be brought to book," he added.
