In 2011-12 also, Bihar figured among the top five states with 13.1% growth.

Releasing the figures, principal secretary (planning and development department) Vijoy Prakash said the major sectors that had recorded growth included trade and hotels (17.79%), industry (17.09%), services (17.09%), banking and insurance (16.42%), fisheries (16.16%), transport (15.87%), construction (14.64%) and agriculture and animal husbandry (6.44%).

As against 580,000 tonnes of rice last year, the state is expected to produce 780,000 tonnes this year.

Prakash said the fluctuations in the growth rates of the agricultural sector were due to variations in rainfall in different years.

“We intend to achieve a growth rate of 7% in the agricultural sector and the data on quick estimates suggest that we are nearing the target,” he said.
