The folly: Deepak Kumar, 19, was in love with a girl and reportedly caught in a compromising position with her by the latter's family members.
The incident took place in Majhaulia area, about 10 kilometres from the West Champaran district headquarters town Bettiah. Sources said the deceased was not ready to end the affair with the girl despite repeated pressure from her family members. And the girl was also not willing to snap ties with him.
In the FIR lodged with Majhaulia police station, Ravindra Kumar, brother of the deceased, named six persons of his village accusing them of subjecting his brother to most inhuman treatment as a punishment for the love affair.
Majhaulia SHO Sunil Kumar said Deepak was in love with the girl and had even eloped in 2012 only to be arrested later on by Banjaria police in the neighbouring East Champaran district. The police had then released the lovebirds after their parents submitted a written undertaking that the matter be considered as closed.
He said all the accused as also the girl in question had fled the village after the incident.

Meanwhile, Gyaneshawar Gautam, state chief of the human rights violation cell, condemned the incident and said the accused acted against Deepak in a Taliban style.
