The Association of Unified Telecom Service Providers of India (AUSPI) has asked communications minister Kapil Sibal to charge for excess spectrum from incumbent telecom service providers.

The telecom commission had earlier ruled that the incumbent operators will have to pay for 2G spectrum beyond 6.2MHz at a market price, arrived at through an aucton. Incumbent operators are using spectrum without paying for excess spectrum. AUSPI said the government stands to lose more than Rs 20,000 crore due to this.
