ON THE occasion of ‘National Technology Day’, a symposium on ‘Advancements and scope in biotechnology’ was organised to commemorate the Pokhran blasts by the National Academy of Sciences India (NASI), Allahabad on Thursday.
The symposium was organised by CEO, Biotech Park, Lucknow and general secretary (HQ), NASI Prof PK Seth. Prof AB Samaddar, director MNNIT was the chief guest on the occasion while Prof CBL Srivastava, council member of the NASI presented the welcome address.
In his welcome speech during the inaugural session, Prof Srivastava outlined the sphere of technology and its future prospects. Prof Seth in his introductory speech explained the role and importance of bio-technology in the human development. He said that the technology in India was not inferior to that of western countries as several western scientists and teachers opt for working in India. He said that the present era was of bio-technology and bio-technological developments would make life easy for the entire mankind in near future.
In his presidential address, Prof Samaddar praised the technological development in the country and said that India was capable enough to work independently. He said that the present century to be the century of bio-technology. He said that bio-technological era would last for centuries. Discussing the advantages of bio-technology, Prof Samaddar also warned of the fallout of technology.

{{/usCountry}}The first technical session comprised of lecture on bio-technology by Prof Seth followed by a lecture on ‘Nanotoxicology- a threat for ultrafine particles’ by Dr Qamar Rahman, Emeritus Scientist, ITRC, Lucknow and a lecture and demonstration on ‘Role of biotechnology in improvement of tropical fruit trees’ by Prof Vijay Shankar Jaiswal, Department of Botany, BHU, Varanasi. The second technical session was conducted at Centre for Bio-technology, Allahabad University in co-ordination with Dr Anjana Pandey and at Department of Botany, AU in co-ordination with Dr Richa Tandon and Dr Ramakant Ojha. Prof Seth at NASI distributed certificates to the participants at the centre.
