Biranchi murder: political parties express concern

Political parties voice anguish over the brutal killing of Biranchi Das, former coach of Budhia and the opposition alleged it reflected the lawlessness in the state.

Political parties in Orissa, including state's ruling coalition partner BJP, on Tuesday, voiced anguish over the brutal killing of Biranchi Das, former trainer of child marathon runner Budhia, and the opposition alleged it reflected the lawlessness in the state.

While opposition Congress leader former Chief Minister J B Patnaik described the killing as "shocking" and state unit of CPI alleged the state had turned into a sanctuary for criminals.

Senior BJP leader and Law minister B B Harichandan also expressed grave concern over the murder of Das whom he described as one of the finest judo coaches the state had produced. "I am hurt and sad over the incident", Harichandan said in a statement.

Expressing his surprise over the manner in which Das was killed, Patnaik said "I could never imagine that criminals would kill some one in Orissa in front of his house".

The veteran Congress leader said the incident showed the law and order situation had worsened in the state capital.

CPI state secretary Dibakar Nayak alleged the law and order situation was being managed by mafias and gangsters and not the police.
