The result was confirmed by Pune's National Institute of Virology (NIV) and Delhi-based National Institute of Communicable Diseases and conveyed to the Union Health Ministry on Friday.

The Centre, in turn, passed on the information to the state government, Mr Doke said. The other samples had already tested negative.

These samples were sent from Navapur within 48 hours of confirmation of the outbreak of bird flu in poultry on February 18.

Meanwhile, of the 14 persons admitted at the Navapur sub-district hospital and kept in isolation, 11 are still under observation while the rest were discharged on Friday.
