Bite this bait

Mumbai knows its fish. From hole-in-the-wall eateries to fine-dining restaurants, there are several seafood places in the city that offer various cuisine and cater to every pocket size. So there is a high novelty factor involved when a new fish joint opens. And if its name happens to be Twisted Fish, the intrigue goes up by a notch.

However, this Khar outlet looked a little confused about who its patrons were. While it isn’t unusual to find several coastal cuisine under one roof, it is odd to find staple Indian-Chinese and North Indian fare (Paneer Tikka or Chicken Schezwan) at such places. The alcohol menu has the same drinks offered by neighbour Three Wise Monkeys (they are, after all, owned by brothers). But a quick glance at the menu and we were pleased to see several traditional Mangalorean and Konkan dishes on it, like Meen Pulimunchi and various Gassis.

We opted for the Jhinga Methi Lasooni (Rs 300) and Mutton Kalimirch (Rs 220). While the prawns were fresh (that deserves a special mention as monsoon isn’t the best time to eat fish), the Kalimirch was disappointing. It was too oily and the mutton was undercooked.

What we like
* Reasonable prices
* Traditional cuisine

We don’t like
* Confusing menu
