BJD, BJP demonstrate against fuel price hike

Activists of the ruling BJD and BJP staged demonstrations all over Orissa on Monday to protest petro price hike.

Activists of the ruling BJD and BJP staged demonstrations all over Orissa on Monday to protest the steep rise in prices of petrol and diesel and of various essential commodities.

Slogans shouting demonstrators took out processions in Bhubaneshwar and in 38 other cities and towns before staging a two-hour dharna outside the offices of district collector.

Slogans like 'UPA Government down down', 'Sonia Gandhi Hai, Hai' and 'roll back price hike' reverberated at the venues of dharnas before they submitted a memorandum to their respective district collectors.

Effigies of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi were also burnt by the demonstrators.

A seven-member team of BJD-BJP submitted a memorandum to Orissa Governor Rameswar Thakur demanding immediate rollback of price hike.

Senior BJD leaders Damador Rout, MP Braja Kishore Tripathy and BJP MP Dharmendra Pradhan addressed the gathering in front of Raj Bhawan.

Several ministers, belonging to BJD and BJP, took part in the protest at different places.
