Accusing the state government of dragging its feet on the commitment made by it to the victims of Kishtwar riots over two months ago, BJP spokesperson Jitendra Singh on Sunday said that those affected were being tremendously harassed in the name of compensation.
“Leave alone compensation based on assessment of individual loss as promised, the government has so far not even come forth with disbursing immediate relief announced by it,” he charged.
“On the other hand, there is tremendous harassment in the name of compensation,” he added, citing the order issued by ADC Kishtwar,wherein each victim is required to fulfill several formalities before claiming the relief.
“These formalities, include an affidavit duly attested by the judicial magistrate stating therein that they shall be personally responsible for providing any wrong information regarding value of goods damaged and shall be liable for penalties and recoveries; a copy of annual return; a copy of quarterly VAT; a copy of final statement; a copy of layout plan; a copy of form-C; a copy of Income-Tax return; a copy of CA's balancesheet and sale purchase bills.”
“The question is, what is the real motive of this ridiculous procedure of providing relief or denying the same? Because any sensible person can understand that a trader, who could not save his establishment and other valuables, could have hardly been able to save each of these documents.”
Jitendra Singh disclosed that the decision with regards to this was taken during a meeting of a committee framed by the deputy commissioner, Kishtwar, with ADC, Kishtwar, ACR, Kishtwar, tehsildar, Kishtwar, and padder as its members.
