BJP’s top brass including LK Advani, Rajnath Singh, Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley expressed solidarity for its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi as they mobilised the masses for his ‘Run for Unity’ marathon held across over 1,100 locations in India.

The event to mark the death anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, and galvanise support for the proposed 182-metre statue of Patel, saw Modi declare: “This run is being organised with a determination to unite the people, unite the villages and unite the nation.”

Modi flagged off the marathon at Vadodara while in Delhi, it was flagged off by party president Rajnath Singh who called upon the youth to rise for the nation.

The marathon also saw Smriti Irani gathering support in Kolkata whereas in a surprise move, in the ruling Congress-led UDF in Kerala, government chief whip and Kerala Congress (M) leader PC George inaugurated the run at Kottayam.

However, the Congress was quick in attacking Modi, saying it was ironical that those responsible for communalising the country had organised the event.
