BHARATIYA JANATA Party workers took out a procession and staged a dharna at the district magistrate’s office on Tuesday in protest against the statement of State Minister for Minority Welfare and Haj, Yaqoob Qureshi, asking for the scalp of Danish cartoonist for ridiculing Prophet Mohammad. They also condemned the attack by an agitated mob at the party office in Lucknow.

Levelling serious charges against the ruling Samajwadi Party for inciting the mob to attack the BJP office, former Cabinet minister and senior party leader Shiv Pratap Shukla said the display of arms by the mob at the Vidhan Bhawan was a cause for concern and the mysterious silence maintained by the Mulayam Singh Yadav government on this issue only proved that the SP had an understanding with radical Muslim forces.
Shukla said the State government was supporting the agitation of the minorities’ community and demanded that the chief minister should dismiss the controversial minister against the Danish cartoonist as his statement was in violation of the Constitution. He further said that the SP should expel Qureshi from the party.
Former district president of BJP Upendra Shukla said protests against the Danish cartoons on Indian streets was an outburst of Islamic terrorism.
Former BJP MP Raj Narain Paswan, former MLA TP Shukla, Virendra Nayak and others accused the UPA government of pursuing appeasement policies.
