In Friday’s meeting, some BJP corporators raised their voice against Manish Singh alleging that the he was hobnobbing with Congress Mayor Sunil Sood. Ever since the BJP came to power, the State Government changed four officers — IAS officers Gulshan Bamra and Manish Singh besides the state service officers MB Ojha and Vinay Nigam — as the BMC Commissioner.

During the past two-and-a-half year, the BJP-led Government changed four commissioners of the BMC. With change in the State Government in December 2003, the State Government had posted Vinay Nigam as the BMC commissioner by replacing MB Ojha.

When Babulal Gaur was the Chief Minister, Nigam was also changed. At that time, Gulshan Bamra replaced him. Nigam is now the personal secretary of the then chief minister Uma Bharti.

The State Government again changed the BMC Commissioner and now present BMC Commissioner Manish Singh, who is state administrative service officer, replaced Manish Singh, IAS.

The corporators on Friday meeting were reportedly given assurance from senior party leaders that Singh could be replaced in case of complaints against him in future.

When asked, leader of BJP corporators’ group Ashok Pandey also said that the BJP corporators were not happy with the BMC Commissioner’s style of functioning. In reply to another question, Pandey admitted that it would not be good to frequently change the officials.

BMC chairman Ramdayal Prajpati said the corporators only spoke against the working of BMC Commissioner and not demanded his removal. He said that it seemed that present BMC commissioner has been working under pressure from the Mayor and not giving enough attention to the problems of BJP corporators.
