Rebellion took toll on three senior BJP leaders on Saturday as the party expelled them. Those expelled for anti-party activities are former mayor of Dewas Sharad Pachunkar, former MLA from Guna Rajendra Saluja and former vice-president of municipality in Sheopur Daulatram Gupta.
Meanwhile, both the major parties - BJP and Congress — had to change several candidates too on the last day of withdrawing candidature for the civic bodies' polls on Saturday.
In Raisen, Congress made Rajendra Rathod, the official candidate for the post of chairman, replacing Rajkumar Yadav, whose name was announced earlier. The same happened in the BJP which changed candidates in Ashoknagar and Khujner.
KHURAI: In a high-voltage drama at Khurai in Sagar district, all Congress candidates' forms, including that of the chairman's, were cancelled by returning officer citing technical reason. When the second set of mandate was sent, they could not be submitted timely. The Congress alleged that the BJP workers stopped them purposely and returning officer also helped them. They would now contest as independent candidates. In Datia, there was strong resentment among the Congress workers over distribution of tickets and many of them resigned.
61 ELECTED UNOPPOSED: Meanwhile, 61 candidates of BJP were elected unopposed in civic elections across MP as either no one filled up nominations against them or withdrew nominations on Saturday, party officials claimed. The entire body of Tendukheda municipality in Narsinghpur district inclusive of 12 members and the chairman were declared elected unopposed, officials said.
