BJP flays Cong-led UPA govt

BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday termed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's Independence day speech in New Delhi as "election oriented populist speech."

Charging the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre with "bungling" on various issues including the Amarnath land row, senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday termed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's speech on Friday in New Delhi as "election oriented populist speech."

Singh had in Delhi in his Independence Day address, among other issues, called for talks to resolve the Jammu and Kashmir crisis, besides warning against "divisive politics" on the issue.

"It was the Congress(coalition government) which first allotted the land and later revoked the order," he said adding Singh's statements yesterday smacks of "duplicity and deception.In fact, it is the Congress which is practising divisive politics, especially by giving communal reservation," he told reporters in Chennai.

The Centre had "bungled" on each and every front, including economy, agriculture and internal security, he alleged.

"Inflation is at its worst in the country at nearly 13 percent while there is no plan to tackle terrorism. Though the National Security Advisor (NSA) has disclosed there are 800 terror cells in the country, there is no plan declared by the government to tackle terrorism," he said.

Citing a recent Assam High Court observation that the growing infiltration of Bangladeshi migrants into the state could one day make them outnumber the native Assamese, Naidu said such problems were not being attended to by the Centre.'
