The BJP on Saturday accused the UPA Government of appointing the Bannerjee Committee to ensure "desired findings" in the Godhra carnage case with the intention of helping the guilty.

It also charged Railway Minister Lalu Yadav with "using" the retired Supreme Court judge to further his "political agenda" and demanded his resignation.

Party spokesman Prakash Javadekar claimed that the Gujarat High Court judgement in the case was a "slap on the face" for UPA Government and a vindication of the BJP stand vis-a-vis the Godhra carnage.

"Justice Bannerjee's findings were illogical and absurd and devoid of common sense suggesting that kar sevaks (in the train bogey) committed mass suicide," he stated.

Hinting that the party may resort to an agitation demanding Lalu's resignation, Javadekar said they would wait for some time to see what step the government takes on the issue before deciding upon their further plan of action.
