The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused Jharkhand's ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA) of launching an undercover operation against its legislators to implicate them in criminal cases and defame the party.
BJP legislator Ashok Bhagat on Wednesday night lodged a first information report (FIR) against two people in Ranchi alleging that they were trying to entrap him in a bribery scandal.
"Two persons came to my residence and they wanted recommendation for some work. They were trying to pay me but I returned the money. They took some photographs from the mobile, which they left before leaving the residence when I questioned them about it," the FIR stated.
"The sting operation was part of the UPA's game plan to implicate our legislators. But the good understanding of the legislator prevented it," said former chief minister Arjun Munda.
The BJP has alleged that the UPA asked a private software company to launch the sting operation against its legislator.
"The UPA wants to harm the image of the BJP before the Koderma Lok Sabha by-election. A CBI inquiry should be instituted to probe the conspiracy angle and who funded and asked the private software company to launch a sting operation," said Munda.

"The BJP has lost its image after losing power. The charges of the BJP are baseless. The internal fighting of the BJP has peaked and this is a move to improve its image," said Niel Tirkey, a Congress legislator.
