The party won 17 of the 28 seats in the state capital, elbowing the Congress to the second place with 10 seats. The Janata Dal (S) managed a single seat.

Interestingly, the party’s performance in the city was the best in Old Mysore region which went to polls during the first phase. In all the other districts, the seats were shared by Congress and Dal. The Congress won eight of the eleven seats in Mysore, swept all four in Chamarajanagar, bagged four of the five in Chikballapur, and won two each in Kolar, Ramanagaram, Hassan and Mandya.

The BJP’s record show in the state capital was attributed to B.S. Yeddyurappa's contributions as the Finance Minister by Shobha Karandlaje. “People have rewarded us for his programmes (initiated as Finance Minister). The Dal has lost because their leaders betrayed us,” she told this correspondent.
