"There always remains a scope of improvement....it could be achieved by introspection," Gandhi told reporters in her constituency Aonla in Bareilly district, some 300 km from Lucknow.

"In order to march ahead, we all need to introspect to realise our shortcomings. It will help the party expand its base," she added.

When asked about Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat's remarks that "the party must decide for itself what it needs - surgery, chemotherapy or medicines", Gandhi declined to make any comments.

When asked who is responsible for the party's poor performance in the recently concluded assembly elections of the three states, Gandhi said, "The responsibility is not of any specific individual....we all are responsible. We need to analyze what went against us."
