In a press release in Visakhapatnam he said the Muslim leaders' advocacy of ban on the national song, would encourage religious fundamentalists and could have disastrous consequences. Vande Mataram, Janganamana and Sare Jahn Se Achcha were like three pillars of the country and nothing should be done to reduce their importance.

In fact, no Indian has the right to question the significance of these pieces of literature, which had sustained the spirit of the freedom movement, Ahmed said.

The BJP city unit president B Rangamohan said Vande Mataram, which united people in the country, should not be used for petty gains.
