Top BJP leaders came out with their prescription for combating terrorism in the light of the blasts in Jaipur. While BJP general secretary Arun Jaitley announced a six-point agenda to deal with the menace, Leader of Opposition L.K. Advani demanded immediate re-enactment of Pota, describing it as a potent weapon to combat terror.
Former Prime Minister A.B. Vajpayee issued a brief statement, calling for peace and calm. BJP president Rajnath Singh said his party would back any comprehensive move by the government to combat terrorism. Jaitley said, “The war against terror will be won not by words, but by national resolve, political courage and decisive action. This action must be motivated by security concerns and not those of vote bank politics.”
He said the Jaipur blasts are a “grim reminder to the entire nation that India is a soft state that can be attacked by terrorists at will”.
Advani, who went to Jaipur to see the injured in the blasts, said a stringent law like Pota was the need of the hour.
“Guided by vote bank politics, the UPA government, soon after assuming office, repealed Pota. The UPA government’s weak response to tackle terror had emboldened militants,” he said.
