Talking to mediapersons, Congress leader Ramesh Chauhan said conceding the longstanding demand of opening of a college, and subsequently making a budgetary provision of `5 crore for it, would facilitate the village youth in a long way.

This would, besides opening new vistas of higher study at the doorsteps, also enable the poor students to get education, he added.

The chief minister had announced the opening of a degree college at a public meeting on the occasion of Sayar Utsav at Arki on Monday.

Listing other major achievements of the government in the short span of eight months, Chauhan said up-gradation of high schools at Dagshai and Haripur to the level of senior secondary and middle schools at Rouri, Ghamjhun, Ganol and Ghatogra to the level of high schools was enough indication that the Congress government under the leadership of Virbhadra Singh was committed to all-round development of the state.

Speaking on growing problem of acquisition of land by the National Highway Authorities of India (NHAI), Chauhan said the chief minister had taken up the issue with the union minister for road transport at Dharampur market, and had his assurance that the NHAI would now construct a by-pass to safeguard the interests of the people of Dharmapur town.
