He was addressing a public meeting at Lanka in Varanasi City South in Varanasi on Sunday.

Dr Joshi said that the Samajwadi Party (SP)-led state government failed to ensure the security of the common people including traders, farmers and students.

Despite this, the SP was seeking votes to return to power, he added.

Dr Joshi further said during the SP rule, only criminals flourished and a sense of insecurity prevailed among the common man.

He further said that the politics of caste and religion was a threat to democracy.

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Chief Mayawati and SP Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav were contesting the elections so that they might not be lodged in jail after the UP elections, he said.

He further said Kalyan Singh was the best chief ministerial candidate for UP.

Launching a scathing attack on the Congress, he said the party was allegedly trying to protect terrorists. He also raised the foreign origin issue of Congress President Sonia Gandhi.

Meanwhile, addressing party workers and office bearers of the city unit of the BJP, senior party leader Arun Jaitely said the policies of the Congress were based on dynastic rule.

He said that the BJP never adopted dynastic rule. That was why, Atal Bihari Vajpeyee and Lal Krishna Advani became great leaders. Jaitely also criticised the SP and the BSP.
