The BJP on Wednesday dismissed as baseless allegations by Pravin Mahajan, who is accused of killing party leader and his brother Pramod Mahajan, that former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had ignored illegal activities in the official residence of the party MP.
"What he said about Vajpayee is baseless... We reject it," BJP spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad said.
His comments came in the wake of Pravin Mahajan's allegations that the 7, Safdurjung Road, the official residence of the slain BJP leader where a late-night binge last month led to the arrest of his son Rahul on drug charges, was being used for such activities for the past five to six years.
"This has been happening for the past 5-6 years. He (Vajpayee) owes an explanation to the nation," Pravin Mahajan said in Mumbai.
But the BJP refused comment on his allegations that its leader's murder and the drug case involving Rahul Mahajan were linked together.
"The cruel fact is Pravin Mahajan is accused of killing our party leader and his brother. There is no need for us to comment on each and every thing he says," Prasad said.
However, the BJP leader emphasised the need for what he called greater transparency in police investigations into the Rahul Mahajan case.

In the light of the media hype that this case has generated, there is a need for greater transparency in the investigation process," he said. "We will not react on day-to-day selective leaks regarding the case by the police," Prasad added when asked about police searches at the Mahajan residence.
