A senior BJP leader and former cabinet minister confirmed the development here on Monday. He said it was not without reason that RLD chief Ajit Singh at a public meeting in Mathura had announced that his son, Jayant, would contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, from Mathura, with BJP’s support.

However, modalities for the proposed alliance are yet to be worked out, but the BJP leaders are doing a seat-wise study, sources added.

The pre-poll alliance is likely to be limited to western Uttar Pradesh. Where, according to a BJP leader, the BJP is weak and is expected to benefit from RLD’s support.
