In an exclusive chat with Hindustan Times, Uma Bharti said protest by BJP leaders over Aligarh riots was just a gimmick.

The firebrand leader, who was here in the city to firm up relations with Apna Dal chief Sone Lal Patel, said Mau, Lucknow, Aligarh and Meerut incidents have clearly proved that the State machinery had failed on all fronts. She further said had the BJP not supported the SP-led government, it would have collapsed by now.

Commenting on the BJP she said the party had two faces. Elaborating on it, she said there was one BJP which functions on ‘vichar’ (ideology) while the other acts on the ‘isharon’ (direction) of leaders. The firebrand leader said she was against the party being run as some leaders wanted.

About the formation of her new political outfit, Uma said she had already pledged to launch it on April 30 and hence there was no question of her going back to the BJP.

However, details of Uma’s discussions with Sone Lal Patel was not revealed till the filing of the news.
