After a meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi told reporters on Monday that the CCPA would meet after a cabinet meeting. The priority agenda of the session would be a comprehensive legislation on amending the law relating to office of profit, he said.

Dasmunsi's meeting with the PM followed his discussions over the weekend with Leader of the Opposition L.K. Advani, and leaders of other parties, including the Left allies, to evolve a consensus on resolving the office-of-profit controversy.
The two sides had veered round to the view that there was need for a legislation to redefine the office of profit in the context of a rash of disqualification petitions against MPs and MLAs in various states.

The petition, filed by one Mohammed Kallimullah, alleged that Malhotra had made a false declaration at the time of filing his nomination in March 2004 that he was not holding any “office of profit” as stipulated under Article 102(1)(a) of the Constitution.

Following the submissions, Justice Vikramjit Sen issued notices to the Election Commission, Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, besides Malhotra, asking them to file replies, and posted the matter for further hearing on April 5.
